Inglés, Profesional de Apoyo CONICET. In 1965, Argentinean research in human citogenetics was at its beginnings. It was pionered by Dr. Néstor O. Bianchi and his group at the laboratories of the Comisión de Investigaciones Científicas de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (CICPBA). By 1975, the initial group had grown in number and scientific interest to such extent that CICPBA and the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Cientificas (CONICET) decided to transform it in an institute: the Instituto Multidisciplinario de Biología Celular (IMBICE). Dr. Bianchi and Dra. Lidia Arbeletche de Vidal Rioja were IMBICE´s first director and vicedirector, respectively. The fundamental objective of the IMBICE is to carry out high-quality research in human medicine, genetic, biochemistry, neuroscience, structural biology, and biotechnology, with special emphasis in aspects of regional and national importance. It is also a main objective of the Institute to educate and train young investigators in biological disciplines. To this end, the Institute provides a very stimulating scientific environment for graduate students enrolled in doctoral and master degree programs. Finally, the Institute strives to transfer the abilities and knowledge produced by its researchers to the academy, the productive sector and the public. Examples of this endeavor are the Institute's facilities for genetic analysis, cell culture, cryo-preserved cell supply, and specialized courses on demand. |
